In the mid-1980s Carrie Hunt, a graduate student at the University of Montana, conducted experiments to see what may stop a charging grizzly bear. When she tested personal defence sprays and law enforcement/military pepper sprays, she found potential but also obstacles to overcome for effective use on bears. Her research led to an understanding of what the active ingredients in bear spray needed to be, and how it worked in different charging bear scenarios. A volunteer to the project, Bill Pounds, successfully developed a concentrated formulation that was well-atomized and able to be dispersed in a powerful, expanding cone-shaped cloud that did not require aiming. Their bear spray could discharge for more than seven seconds, spray 30 feet, and be deployed by simply directing the spray downward in front of the charging bear. These results were a breakthrough that began the bear spray industry; and has saved the lives of people and bears.
T.J. Schwanky, outdoor writer and host of Outdoor Quest TV. Sheep hunting nut and African plains game junkie with a love for adventure hunting. T.J. knows that not all bear spray is the same and has tested many different brands but he chooses Yukon Magnum compared to the other of dozens he's tried for its range and the highest capsaicin and related capsaicinoids available in canada.
Bear spray should be carried in a readily accessible hip or chest holster, not in a backpack or pocket.
A bear can run 55 kilometres per hour …. that is over 50 feet per SECOND!

Q - I already carry a gun when I hunt. Do I still need to carry bear spray?
A - When a bear attacks, bear spray offers several advantages over a firearm:
Bear spray requires less accuracy than bullets fired at a moving target, especially when you’re under stress.
Accidental discharges or badly aimed firearms can kill people, while bear spray has never caused a fatality. Bear spray leaves the bear alive, and less likely to approach humans in the future.
Firing a warning shot from a gun may not scare a bear away, but a sprayed bear is likely to leave.
Bottom line: hunters who carry bear spray are prepared for anything.
]]>An electric fence is a psychological barrier that keeps farm animals in and wild animals and vermin out - even over long distances.
Electric fencing is ideal for grazing or pasture management by containing animals on a selected area of pasture or crop. It also may be used to excluded livestock and wildlife from unwanted areas.
Permanent electric fencing is economical, easy to install and easy to maintain. Temporary electric fencing is an effective temporary barrier for short-term animal control and rotational grazing.
A pulsed electric current is sent along the fence wire, about one pulse per second, from an energizer which is earthed. When the animal touches the fence it completes the circuit between the fence and the ground and receives a short, sharp but safe shock. The shock is sufficiently memorable that the animal never forgets.
An electric fence is a psychological barrier so doesn’t require great strength to be effective. However, it must be well designed and constructed to absorb some pressure from animals, snow and wind. The energizer must have enough power for the length of the fence and for the animals being controlled. More power is better than not enough
Electric current (AMPS) only flows when a circuit is completed between a positive and negative terminal. An animal standing on the ground and touching the electrified wires will complete the circuit. A bird on the wire will not receive a shock a it is not touching the ground so the circuit is not completed. A person wearing insulated footwear will only receive a small shock because all the current cannot pass through the insulated soles.
Dry, sandy or pumice soil is a poor conductor of electric current, so it is a good idea to add a ground (negative) wire to the fence. The animal must touch both a hot wire and ground wire to feel an effective shock.
Once you have decided what type of electric fence you want for your property, you will need an energizer also known as a fence charger to power it. The correct energizer size for your property is determined by the type of animal to be fenced, fence distance to be powered and the number of wires in the fence.
There are several types of Energizers:
Grounding is perhaps the most neglected component of many fence systems. FenceFast recommends energizer main systems to have at least three ground rods, 5-7’ deep and spaced 10’ apart are the minimum recommendation. Good rule of thumb is 3ft of ground rod for every 1 joule of energizer. Never attach copper to steel. Electrolysis can occur and result in corrosion which weakens shocking power. Use only galvanized or stainless steel ground wire and grounding rods to avoid this problem as most energizers use galvanized or stainless steel terminals – not copper. Think of your ground system as an antenna that gathers electricity in order to deliver the shock to the animal. The bigger and better the antenna the better the signal is received. Having a hose clamp holding a piece of copper wire to a rusty t-post or rebar is often the weakest link of many electric fence systems and the main issue with 80% of the electric fence systems out there.
A temporary Portable electric fence provide flexibility in pasture management and are ideal for short-term animal control or rotational grazing. Easily transported, constructed and maintained, portable fences are an effective temporary fencing solution for a range of animals and situations. These fences can be quickly constructed and moved as often as needed. Temporary electric fences are terrific choices for cattle and horses. They are sufficient for sheep and goats but require more work and greater attention to detail (i.e., wire spacing, available posts, line tension, etc.). Temporary electric fences are also excellent for overnight trail rides to control horses and on camping trips to keep unwanted animals away from your campsite.
Temporary electric fence utilizes an electrified wire, tape, or rope and temporary fence posts to quickly section off portions of your pasture for rotational grazing or direct livestock to a desired area. The electric shock given to the livestock does not hurt the livestock, but trains them to avoid contact with the fence. Once trained, the electric fence acts as a psychological barrier instead of a physical barrier like a standard barbwire fence. Temporary electric fences can be constructed quickly using easy to install fence posts, electric wire/rope/tape reels, and portable battery or solar powered energizers.
There is a misconception that dry vegetation touching an electric fence can cause fires – this is extremely unlikely. In order to create a short, vegetation needs to be damp or green so therefore the vegetation will not ignite. Once vegetation dries out it becomes non-conductive meaning any short created disappears.
The only conceivable but still very unlikely scenario where an electric fence could start a fire is when a wire shorts to a grounded metal object, such as a steel post or wire where insulators have broken, in the presence of abundant dry vegetation. This scenario is very unlikely to occur in practice, and even less so on a well-maintained fence. Producers with fences on steel posts or using earthed wires are advised to ensure the live wires are well insulated and the fence is clear of vegetation. If these factors are of concern then on days of severe or above fire risk, consider switching the energizer off.
Once you have decided what type of electric fence you want for your property, you will need an energizer also known as a fence charger to power it. The correct energizer size for your property is determined by the type of animal to be fenced, distance of fence to be powered and the number of wires in the fence. Selecting a larger Energizer than you need, results in better stock control and a larger safety factor if the fence or installation is imperfect (forage/vegetation interference, etc.)
Portable Solar powered energizers offer effective livestock control in remote locations where power is unavailable and easy portability is required. These complete solar systems come complete with battery and solar panel built in making them a cinch to install and will last for years, just install a ground rod attach energizer to ground and power wire to fence with included lead sets. The Gallagher, Speedrite, Patriot and Corral Fence Energizers we carry all come with a 3 year warranty.
For Canada Solar energizers are recommended for grazing season only use only.
A Battery Powered Energizer System needs a constant current.
If not recharged, the battery will eventually become completely discharged and the Energizer will stop working. The amount of current required by an Energizer increases with the size of the Energizer. The amount of charge stored by the battery is measured in Amp-hours (Ah) and increases with the size of the battery. A battery should be chosen which is designed for regular charge and discharge cycles and for discharging most of its capacity without damage.
Canadian winters can be challenging for reliable solar power in winter the sun is significantly lower on the horizon. This means that you should change the angle of your solar panels to a vertical position so that the sun continues to hit the panels at a 90° angle to maximize solar photovoltaic charging of the battery. Vertical position will also help reduce snow build up as 20% snow coverage of a solar panel may cut production by 80% so it is very important to keep solar panels clean of snow. It is also important to clean the panel from time to time of bird dropping and dust as this can also reduce solar power production.
Shorter daylight hours in winter mean that the solar panels on your solar powered fences may not be able to keep up with demand. The battery won't fully recharge each day and will slowly deplete over time. You have two options;
Increase your solar panel wattage collection capacity and battery Ah storage depending on your latitude and winter daylight hours this could mean adding 2-3 x more solar wattage and battery Ah as shown on the below Regional area solar chart.
Keep a spare deep cycle battery on hand for your solar powered fence energizer system so you can swap batteries, allowing you to fully recharge each battery from time to time with a plug-in battery charger back at the farmyard. At 49° North latitude, switching batteries once per week to fully recharge the second battery is usually sufficient to prevent the voltage from dropping below 3500 volts on the fence. If you live further north, you will require more frequent battery swaps. Further south will require less. Cloudy weather will also increase the frequency of battery swaps.
Always use deep cycle marine batteries with your solar powered electric fence charger because these batteries are built to withstand deep draw-down. Regular car batteries will fail during repeated heavy battery draw-downs.

How to Build an Electric Fence Gallagher 101 Manual
How to install a solar powered Gallagher MBS Energizer installation video:
]]>
Did you know 80% of all electric fence problems are caused by poor grounding systems?
Setting up a good grounding system is often overlooked but it's critical. It's how the power flows from the Energizer, to the fence, through the animal and back through the ground to the Energizer. Without good clean ground rods in sufficient size and number, the ground connection doesn't work, and the shock will not complete as a shock will only be received if the earth grounding system is capable of instantly replacing all the electrons that escape to the soil from the electric fence wire. If the earth ground system is incapable of instantly collecting a huge number of electrons from the soil, the full charge on the fence will not be released when the wire is touched. So, creating an effective earth grounding system is about building an effective electron collection system.
The number of ground rods will vary depending on the power of the energizer and the soil type

An electric fence is a psychological barrier; after first contact with an electric fence, your horse will avoid it. Horses are sensitive animals that are prone to startle easily and give flight. If a horse tries to escape and there's a barbed wire fence, it can get seriously injured. Preference should be given to a clearly visible barrier, one with wide tape or braid. A flexible fence will considerably reduce the risk of injury.

If raccoons are digging up your lawn, it’s usually because you have a problem with grubs living in the soil, which gone untreated will cause patches of your lawn to die off. Although an electric fence is an effective deterrent to keeping the raccoons off your yard, it is only a temporary measure and doesn’t solve the underlying cause. To fully address the situation, visit your local garden center for a grub treatment solution than once the grubs are gone the raccoons will stop visiting and digging up your lawn.
Raccoons will often pull up freshly laid sod because it is easy to do and hides a lot of tasty bugs underneath. In this situation, an electric garden fence kit or rabbit netting can be used to keep raccoons, and other animals off your new lawn unit-roots have been established.
Raccoons can carry the deadly disease rabies, and many also have parasites, so it’s best to avoid attracting them to your yard. This means securing any food attractants like garbage, bird feeders, and fish ponds electric fencing can be an effective tool for keeping your yard free of raccoons.
For smaller animals, such as raccoons, single-strand electric fences can be installed in front of non-electrified fences or other obstacles. The shock is then delivered before the animal can climb the larger fence. All-in-one kits offer small gardens and backyard ponds and easy electric fence option.
The Smart Fence is a 4-wire completely portable, instant electric fence that is easy to set up. Just add an energizer and a 3ft ground rod. It can be quickly setup around your garden, fish pond or other area you wish to keep raccoons out. This unit can also be used for blocking broken fences, temporary paddocks, hay bale protection, bear exclusion, and is perfect for use temporary fencing at horse, sheep and other livestock and wildlife including dogs, foxes, and coyotes.
Electric netting, complete with push-in posts, is one of the most effective deterrents for keeping raccoons away from specific areas – such as gardens, flow beds or fish ponds. Nets can be erected and taken down quickly and easily. Nets can be easily linked together to create a larger barrier. They are also an effective deterrent for keeping dogs, cats and rabbits out. The fence can be powered by either 110V mains, battery or solar energisers.
Electric wires can also be installed along existing fencing or buildings to deter them from climbing over into chicken coops. Raccoons are superb climbers and can scale conventional fences with ease. They may also use overhanging branches to bypass the fence. A "hot wire” and a ‘ground wire” at the top of the fence will greatly improve effectiveness.
Multi-strand, high tensile electric fences are mostly used when protecting highly valued resources, such as orchards or agricultural crops. More than other types of electric fencing, these fences require expertise to install.
Caution: It is important to recognize that electric fences are potentially dangerous to both people and animals. Their use must be in accordance not only with any local restrictions or ordinances but also with common sense. Electric fences should not be used in places where small children or pets could be shocked, and must always be well marked with cautionary signs. All electric fences require frequent inspection and maintenance—it’s important to keep surrounding areas clear to prevent plants from growing into the wires and shorting them out.

Another alternative is to use a 3D effect fence. In this configuration the fencing is built on an angle facing outward when the deer approach they unsure how to jump such an obstacle, when they try to crawl thru the fence they receive a sharp but safe shock which discourages them from doing so.
This same 3D electric fence application can be utilized in a portable system shown here.,
A mobile fence is ideal as a temporary or easy-to-move enclosure. It’s also suitable for subdividing large deer parks, or protecting your crops against deer.
A Gallagher Food Plot Protector Fence allows you to achieve both forms of protection. The three-dimensional configuration keeps all species (including deer) out of the plot until it is ready for harvest. By removing the outside fence and changing the wire configuration of the inside fence, you will allow deer into the plot while keeping wild hogs and livestock out of the plot!
There is a risk in some areas that free-range hogs can come into contact with wild boars, and become contaminated with swine fever. So, a reliable, safe electric fence to keep your hogs in and wild boars out is a wise investment.
We recommend a three-wire system with a distance between posts of 10 metres as a minimum for a permanent (interior) fence for free-range pigs. Bear in mind that in some areas you also need an exterior fence (to prevent contamination with swine fever by loose wild boars). A seven-wire system with a distance between posts of 12 metres provides a reliable permanent exterior fence for free-range pigs. It should be positioned four metres from the interior fence.
High Tensile is a very durable, permanent fence. It will easily last 20 to 25 years, which makes it very suitable. Combined with a powerful Gallagher fence energizer, you will have optimum electrical conductivity.

A mobile fence is ideal as a temporary, or easy-to-move, enclosure. Very suitable for subdividing large plots for your (free-range) pigs. At FenceFast we offer several options from electric netting to a three-wire system with a distance between posts of 10 metres as a moveable fence for free-range pigs. Depending on the type of pig, one or two wires may be enough. Bear in mind that in some areas you also need an exterior fence (to prevent contamination with swine fever by loose wild boars). As a rule, the minimum distance between the interior and the exterior fence should be four metres. Pigs are also rooters and can often bury the bottom of electric netting so if you want to have the added security of using portable netting have a secondary 1 or 2 wire poly fence set a couple of feet inside the netting can help prevent your pigs from shorting out the netting this will also give you a secondary barrier if you have any wild hogs running loose in your area.
Electric Bear fencing is relatively easy to maintain and economical to build being only a psychological barrier it doesn’t require great strength to be effective. However, it must be well designed and constructed to absorb some pressure from animals, snow and wind. The energizer must have enough power for the length of the fence and for the animals being controlled. More power is better than not enough. For areas of high attractions or habituated problem bears we recommend a minimum of a 2 Joule energizer
How an electric fence works is a pulsed electric current is sent along the fence wire, about one pulse per second, from an energizer which is earthed. When the animal touches the fence, it completes the circuit between the fence and the ground and receives a short, sharp but safe shock. The shock is sufficiently memorable that the animal never forgets. If one is using an electric fence on grounds that are poor conductors such as sand, gravels or rock than it is best to use a positive/negative electric fence system. This is when wires are hooked up alternated positive and negative (hooked directly back to the ground side of the energizer) thus ensures that if a positive and negative wire are touch simultaneously than the bear receives the full shock of the energizer. With a poor earth ground return a bear may not receive a powerful enough shock to deter them.
There are two basic types of fence design permanently and temporarily portable. For longer term installations like landfills, transfer stations, work camps, horticultural fields, professionally designed permanent type fencing is recommended.
There are an array of permanent electric fence designs that can deter bear. Bear fencing is often used to protect beehives, dumpsters, lambing and calving areas, corrals and other small areas in need of protection form scavenging or predation.

Portable Electric Bear FencingFor areas of short term or seasonal protection Temporary portable type electric fencing systems are best utilized. FenceFast has a range of portable and semi portable systems and can help with customized systems if required.
For commercial Apiaries situations with beehive larva being a very high attractant to bears we recommend a minimum of an 2 joule energizer to ensure there is a strong enough shock to deter a bear first shock. In the case of lower level bear levels or just a few backyard hives a positive negative setup with an 0.50 Joule energizer would be a minimum. Note in Canada all in one solar energizers do have limitations in later in the season fall in more northern and mountainous areas. In those areas we would recommend an energizer with a plug in charging option in case the batteries need to be topped up in less than favorable solar conditions
There are different types of electric fencing for poultry:
This all-in-one Electric Netting is the ideal solution for safely containing free-range chickens. The netting fence is easy to set up and transport so it’s a convenient and secure fencing alternative if you need to move your chickens frequently.
To power your portable electric poultry netting we recommend no less than a 1 joule energizer or a 3 joule energizer if you have tall grass or predator issues. A Multi Power energizer is the best value for output however a self contained solar energizer is a very portable option for summer season only use here in Canada.
An electric fence can also be added to existing runs to stop predators climbing or digging into the enclosure. A permanent poultry/pheasant run can be protected from predators by adding 2-3 lines of electrified wire, poly or tape supported by wood post insulators such as
We designing and installing a system such as this you may need to get a little creative and utilize several different style of insulators, gate handles and hardware to create the the required results. ]]>FenceFast offers unique, safe Lamas and Alpaca electric fencing systems that cater for the specific needs and social nature of these animals.
Electric fencing for alpacas is a safe, economical and long lasting alternative to sheep mesh, non-electric or dangerous barbed wire fencing.
FenceFast offers a full range of Lama/Alpaca electric fence options. Select from permanent (high tensile) or portable fence systems or an offset fence which allows electrification of existing fences.
High Tensile is a very durable, permanent fence. It will easily last 20 to 25 years, and it’s very suitable as fencing for alpacas. Combined with a powerful fence energizer, you will have optimum electrical conductivity. Gallagher recommends a six-wire system for a permanent alpaca fence. This system is based on a unique concept of fixed and non-fixed posts, such as the High Tensile sheep fence. The only difference is that the height has been adapted to alpacas, with a fence height of 1.26m.
Our advice
Permanent enclosure for alpacas? Then use High Tensile.
Do you want to put up a temporary or mobile fence for alpacas? For example, divide a large plot into two smaller ones? Or perhaps you have a rented field you want to enclose? We offer a simple and easy-to-fit solution suitable for alpacas.
This system consists of posts, wire and a fence energizer. We recommend temporary posts in combination with 12.5mm tape or cord. The top wire is fitted at a minimum height of 1.20m. That is high enough for alpacas.
Combined with an energizer the fence is electrified.
Have you already got a mesh fence for your alpacas, and you’d like to protect it to make it last longer? In that case you won't need a complete new fence, as you can easily electrify the mesh fence with offset insulators. Quick, efficient and cost effectively.
Our advice
Do you want to electrify an existing fence or enclosure? Then use offset insulators:
Gallagher products offers highly visible, hard wearing, economical goat electric fencing systems that cater for the specific needs and inquisitive nature of goats. For a permanent goat fence solution, we recommend a minimum 5-wire Permanent Electric high tensile fence. If you’re looking for an easy to transport, moveable goat fence Electric Netting or SmartFence are ideal solutions. See below for more information about the permanent, portable and offset fence options available for fencing goats.
Electric fencing solutions are very effective in containing goats. However, as some goats are naturally insulated by a thick growth of hair it is essential to ensure the energizer is sufficiently powerful to be effective especially for initial training FenceFast recommends a 3 joule energizer or greater. Please see the information below on electric fencing for Goats or email info@fencefast.ca to have one of our Certified Pasture Pros assist you in your goat management requirements
There are 4 main options for sheep electric fencing and custom kits are also available:SmartFence is the ideal mobile or temporary fence for goats. The SmartFence is an all-in-one system of posts, reels and wires. It’s regarded as the perfect replacement of the standard net fence. It can be assembled and dismantled within five minutes. It’s easy to carry and store (use the corresponding SmartFence accessories for that purpose).
The SmartFence consists of four wires and 10 posts, and is 100 metres long. The barrier can be erected in any required line, as the posts can be positioned anywhere, and the wires are adjustable in height. It’s also possible to connect multiple SmartFences. Combined with a Gallagher fence energizer connected to the SmartFence, your animals will remain safe.
3 Reel/Line System - Strip Grazing Systems for Goats
A 3-wire electric fence with posts 10 metres apart will suffice for a mobile fence for sheep and goats. If you want extra security, for example when you have young goats, a 4-wire system with posts 10 metres apart will be even more reliable. The all-in-one SmartFence solution is even easier and more effective. A 3-reel system is ideal for both 400m plus runs keeping the lines tight, storing the fence lines when not in use and for speeding up fence moves. Start and End of fence are standard for a straight line system. Multi wire posts are generally used throughout these systems. If your overall fence is going to exceed more than 400m be use to use a low resistance poly wire, twines or braids to ensure you have and effective shock over longer distances.
To create a controlled pasture management system, you may require both a fence 'in-front of' and 'behind the herd'. Depending on the area to be covered you could either use 2 separate electric fence systems or create a continuous fence line - whichever is the most suitable. Tread-in plastic posts are not sturdy enough for end and corners so use a 1” fiberglass corner post or a wooden post with wood post insulators.
Electric Netting is ideal to create pens (perhaps at kidding time) if needed or for straight line fencing for strip grazing. Standard 50m netting comes with built-in posts making it easy to erect and move. Additional nets can easily be added on to create larger pens or longer lengths for strip grazing. Some systems have used up to 10 nets. Be sure when you are installing netting to keep it a twight as possible to ensure maximum effectiveness of shock delivery as well minimize entanglement. Corners may need to be secured to a ground peg using string or we recommend utilizing
1” fiberglass corner post to help support mesh at terminations and major directional changes
Goats are masters of escape. For a safe permanent fence for goats, Gallagher recommends a 5-wire Permanent Electric High Tensile power wire fence utilizing Gallagher Insulated Line-Posts with Line Post Clips , or the Lockjawz brace and T-post clip system A good current conductor, such as High Tensile power wire, combined with a powerful Gallagher fence energizer, offers you the security you want. The bottom wire of a goat fence is close to the ground, which means that growing vegetation is quite likely to touch the wire. That's why you need a powerful Gallagher fence energizer, as it will singe the grass once it is touched. As a result, there’ll be plenty of power on your fence. A High Tensile fence, combined with a Gallagher fence energizer, forms the perfect barrier for keeping goats safely and securely in a field. It will work well for many years to come.
Goats can be contained by electric fence. Hi-Tensile combined with a powerful electric fence Energizer 3 joules output or greater can provide the security you need to keep your goats contained.

Do you have a non-electric wood, mesh, or barb wire fence you want to fit with an electric wire? Whether you have a wooden or mesh fence, if a solution is required it would be possible to create an extra electric fencing barrier on livestock fencing that is already in place. Offset insulators would be attached to the wooden posts and galvanized wire would be passed through them - this is then electrified by an energizer (either mains or battery)
A simple, effective method for protecting your existing barrier or fence.
Our advice
Do you want to electrify an existing fence or enclosure? Then use offset insulators:
• Effectively keeps sheep/goats within an existing fence;
• Protect or improve an existing fence;
• Can be used to power portable cross fencing for rotational grazing
Electric fencing for Bison is a safe, economical and long lasting alternative to non-electric and dangerous barbed wire fencing.

Portable electric Fence for Bison
A portable electric fencing is ideal as a temporary, or easy-to-move, enclosure. Extremely suitable for dividing fields into multiple paddocks. It’s also ideal for rationed grazing, allowing you to get the maximum yield from your grass. The best-known system consists of lightweight portable posts and poly wire. This makes it easy to attach the wire to the post, and the wire will remain in the holder. Perfect for a portable fencing. The fence can be put up and/or taken down in one single pass. A portable electric fence can be powered by any Solar Energizer or simply connected to a permanent electric fence supplied by a Mains 110V or Multi Powered Energizer. As portable fencing is so easy to move and set up it’s a versatile solution for fencing any type of animal, even on the most remote area of your farm.
Portable Electric Fence Components:
Ring Top or Pigtail posts are a popular option for Bison and cattle portable fencing. Multiwire treadins come with the option to secure wire at different heights so they can be used for all other animals.
B Reels
Reels hold the tape, braid or wire for the portable fence. You can use just one reel for single line fences or up to four reels, attached to a reel stand, for multi wire fences.
Tapes, wires or braid are used on portable fences rather than the galvanised wire used on permanent fences. Gallagher conductors are ideal for portable electric fences as they are light, visible and easy to wind.
Power Connectors are leads that connect a portable fence to an existing permanent electric fence.
Our advice
Choose from a selection of portable posts for a portable Bison fence:
Recommend maximum distance between posts of 8 metres or where you need a post to maintain a consistent wire height
For Sheep the grass is always greener on the other side! Sheep with a full fleece are very well insulated which can make them more difficult to shock, so taking both thickness of fleece and distance of the fence into account it is essential to ensure the energizer is sufficiently powerful enough to deliver an effective shock especially for initial training. FenceFast recommends a 3 joule energizer or greater for primary sheep containment and training.

We recommend our unique strip-grazing system. This system consists of fence tumblewheels, giving you a very easy way to move dairy cattle onto the next strip of fresh grass. The fence tumblewheels roll along the land like a tumble weed, giving the cattle a fresh strip of grass every day. This, in turn, ensures your land is grazed optimally.

Our advice
Hi Darren and thanks for the question. Electric fencing is definitely made to withstand a rainy climate. When it is raining you might experience more draw down on the fence, meaning there is less voltage on the fence. However, the energizer selected will be the factor on how it operates in a rainy climate. Mains fence energizers, those requiring a 110V plug, are recommended to be mounted on a wall, undercover, and protected from outside elements. Multi-powered or solar energizers have water-resistant cases allowing more flexibility in placement on your operation. I hope you find that helpful. If you have any more questions about selecting the perfect energizer for your operation, I would be happy to assist you with that as well. The energizer is the heart of the electric fence and when you have the right one for your situation it makes your life easier.
